Frequently asked questions

Q: Do you give TB tests?
A:The Health Office gives and reads TB tests for staff, coaches and volunteers.  Please contact me to set up an appointment.

Q: When is the next CPR class?
A:
Here is the calendar of classes for 2015-16

Q: My child is authorized to carry an inhaler--do I still have to fill out a Medication At School Form?
A: YES.  All medications (prescription, over-the-counter, rescue inhalers, epi-pens, insulin pumps) need to have a Medication At School form filled out and on file.

Q: What if my child needs to carry their medicine with them?
A: By state law, the only medicines allowed to be carried by a student are rescue inhalers, auto-injectable epinephrine and insulin.  All other medications need to be dispersed from the Health Office.

Q: Does my child have to be vaccinated?
A: Under the California School Immunization Law (California Health and Safety Code, Sections 120325-120375), children are required to receive certain immunizations in order to attend public and private elementary and secondary schools, child care centers, family day care homes, nursery schools, day nurseries and developmental centers.

Q: What if we chose not to vaccinate?
A: SB 277 has mandated that the Personal and Religious Exemptions to vaccines be removed.  If your child has an exemption in place, they are covered until the next series of required school vaccinations.  Please visit the Shots For Schools website for more information.

Q: Can I just pick up my child if they call me and tell me they're sick?
A: Preferably, it is best to have the student notify their teacher they are not well, be excused from class, and come to the Health Office before calling home.  From there, I can assess your student and talk with them about what to do next.

Q: My child is having a difficult time with ____.  Do you have a list of community resources that might be able to help?
A: Here is a copy of the Kids First Placer County Resource List.
